Swimming

All children in Y2 at Skegness Infant Academy participate in swimming lessons delivered onsite by JB Sports Coaching, our external coaching company. Through JB we are given access to a large mobile pool facility that is housed on the nearby Junior Academy site during a specific term during the year.

To ensure that the lessons run smoothly and efficiently, we kindly request that children come prepared in the following manner:

  1. Swim Ready: Your child should wear their swimming outfit underneath their school uniform. Children must either wear one-piece swim suit or swimming trunks, as the children did in Year 2. This will help us make the most of our allocated time in the pool.
  2. Change of Clothes: Please ensure your child brings underwear to change into after the swimming lesson.
  3. Swimming Bag: Your child may bring a swimming bag containing the following items:
    • Flip flops (for use when out of the pool)
    • Swimming goggles
    • Towel

Our comprehensive swimming safety program ensures that children understand the unique importance of swimming safety in our coastal community. Living on the East Coast, it is paramount for our children to not only appreciate the marine environment, but also to be equipped with essential life skills in swimming, particularly in our coastal setting.

Why Swimming Safety Matters:

  1. Water Competency: Being located on the East Coast, our students have the opportunity to develop strong swimming skills. Swimming is not just a recreational activity but a life skill that can potentially save lives. We believe that every child should have the confidence and ability to navigate water safely.

  2. Coastal Living: Living by the sea presents unique challenges and opportunities. Teaching our children swimming safety is a proactive step to instill a sense of responsibility and awareness about water safety in the coastal environment. Whether it's a day at the beach or participating in water-based activities, our children are well-prepared to enjoy these experiences safely.

On-Site Swimming Pool:

Having a swimming pool on our site supports the safety and well-being of our children. It provides a controlled environment for swimming lessons and water safety training, allowing our dedicated instructors to focus on individual needs and ensure that each child develops strong swimming skills.

Our commitment to swimming safety extends beyond the pool. We integrate water safety education into our curriculum, fostering a culture of awareness and responsibility. By providing access to swimming lessons and promoting a comprehensive understanding of water safety, we empower our children to navigate their coastal surroundings with confidence, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all. We engage with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) yearly and also support fundraising for them.
